->New feature from GolemGear.com

Golem Rebreathers has examined a Respiratory Minute Volume Keyed (RMV-Keyed) Passive Semi-Closed Rebreather. The following is a summary of comprehensive report produced during meticulous dissection of the unit.

Screens

Left -
There are two screens on both top and bottom of the scrubber. A fine mesh plastic screen, similar to mosquito window screen, and rigid stainless steel mesh.

Right -
Bottom screen inserted into the scrubber.

Left -
The bottom screen is held in place by a spring loaded retaining plate. the plate has four holes drilled through it to pass the gas up from the plenum into the scrubber. Exhaled gas travels through the PVC pipe in the center. The holes in the retaining plate seem to be pretty small to facilitate all the gas flow from the CL into the scrubber on inhale.

Right -
Bottom part of the unit completely assembled. The spring in the middle of the water trap is the same as the one on the left. The PVC pipe sits in the center od the water trap.

Water Trap and Plenum

Left -
The water trap without the spring. Notice openings in the side wall of center hole. These lead into the plenum with add valves (on the right).

Right -
Plenum with one way valve to exhale counter-lung in the center and two holes leading to the main counter-lung Two add valves (standard second stage mechanics) are connected to the ports with blue caps.

The water trap - plenum assembly is cleverly designed to route both the condensate from the scrubber and any water that would enter through the exhale hose into a one-way valve in the center and through it into the exhale CL from which it is expelled from the breathing loop on the next inhale.

Close up of add valves and plenum area. Note, the only path for the gas inhaled from counter-lung is through the two openings in upper right quadrant of the plenum, unless add valves are triggered by bottoming out the main CL. Even then, the gas still must pass through the holes in the side wall of the water trap (far left and below).
